49ers Urged To Sign Former Superstar Wide Receiver

The San Francisco 49ers suffered their first loss of the season this past Sunday, falling to the Cleveland Browns by a score of 19-17.

However, that wasn’t the only loss that the 49ers sustained in Week 6.

San Francisco lost two of its top offensive players in running back Christian McCaffrey and wide receiver Deebo Samuel, with McCaffrey going down with an oblique issue and Samuel exiting with a shoulder injury.

The good news is that neither player’s injury is considered all that serious, but the Niners still made need to bring in some reinforcements in the meantime.

Bleacher Report’s NFL staff suggests that the 49ers sign free-agent receiver Jarvis Landry.

Landry was last seen playing for the New Orleans Saints in 2022, where he appeared in nine games and logged 25 catches for 272 yards and a touchdown.

While the past several years have been a struggle for the declining Landry, he is still just 30 years old, so you have to assume he has something left in the tank.

Plus, it’s not like he would be filling a significant role for San Francisco. He would merely be providing the club with a bit of a safety net while McCaffrey and Samuel get healthy.

Let’s face it: the Niners’ offense relies heavily on both McCaffrey and Samuel, so not having those two guys at 100 percent will hurt. It will hurt even more if you don’t have some type of replacement option on the field to soften the blow.

Landry could fill that role.

Back in 2019, Landry hauled in 83 receptions for 1,174 yards and six touchdowns while with the Cleveland Browns, and as recently as 2020, he caught 72 passes for 840 yards and three scores.

Will he match that production again? Almost certainly not, but he could potentially give the 49ers some type of push in short bursts.
