Seahawks 2020 Free Agency Target: CB Trae Waynes

Aside from Griffin, the Seahawks other starting outside corner was 24-year-old Tre Flowers. He had an up-and-down sophomore campaign in 2019, recording three interceptions, but grading out as the 102nd best corner in football according to Pro Football Focus.

The potential for Flowers to develop into a solid corner is certainly there, but in the Seahawks case, it may be wise to bring in a more experienced corner and allow Flowers to learn from him.

Waynes isn’t a world beater by any means, but he’d be a better option to play opposite of Griffin than Flowers would. Waynes has consistently been good against the run, and while he’s showcased some solid speed throughout his career, he’s never been consistent enough against deep passes to warrant getting a huge contract this offseason.

the Seahawks could sign Waynes to a one-year “prove it” type of deal to see if he’s worth keeping around long term. If he plays well, then Seattle can simply re-sign him. If he doesn’t play well, then Seattle can just cut ties with him at the end of the year.

It’s a win-win situation for the Seahawks.

If you’re a Seahawks fan, keep an eye on Waynes as we approach free agency.
