Defensive Player of the Year
In recent years, edge rushers, interior defenders, and cornerbacks have drawn the attention of the media. As a result, those have been the positions that have been rewarded the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year Award in seven out of the last eight seasons.
On the other hand, despite teams prioritizing finding versatile safeties, they haven’t gotten the props they deserve over the years. Since 1971 — when the DPOY Award was incepted — only five safeties have taken home the hardware. Could Adams become the next safety to defy the odds?
Given his talent and production, Adams definitely has the ability to earn a DPOY Award at some point in his career. Maybe joining a successful team like the Seahawks can bring more attention to his game in the upcoming campaign. With that being said, although it may be unlikely due to other positions being favored, Adams could be the first safety to win the NFL’s prestigious DPOY Award — becoming the first safety to achieve the feat since Troy Polamalu did it in 2010.
