Generally speaking, if you’re a first round pick in the NFL, you’ll find relatively easy playing time on your team. But Seattle Seahawks rookie linebacker Jordyn Brooks is entering the league in a unique position. He’s joining a linebacking core of Bobby Wagner, Bruce Irvin, and K.J. Wright, each of whom is over the age of 30 and a proven veteran in this league.
Wagner and Wright have spent their entire careers in Seattle, ranging as far back as 2011. Irvin, on the other hand, will reintroduced to this team after a 5 year absence. So where does this unique situation land Brooks?
Many fans were appalled and confused when a linebacker out of Texas Tech was drafted with their first round pick. Yes, this position group was old, but they had plenty of talent there and seemingly had more time to find a replacement. This organization has drafted well in the past and knows what they’re doing, and the more you learn about the young linebacker, the more this pick makes sense.
One might think that with this level of experience in the Seahawks’ second line of defense, the rookie linebacker might struggle to find production, but he might just surprise some fans. Yes, he’ll be losing out on playing time thanks to a timely return from injury by K.J. Wright, but with three strong role models to play behind, he’s destined for a strong career.
