The Seattle Seahawks have fallen on tough times in the last few weeks. They have lost two games in a row, with their most recent defeat being at the hands of their NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers, on Thanksgiving night.

The Seahawks lost that game 31-13 as the 49ers took a stranglehold on the division lead, moving to 8-3 on the season. At 6-5, Seattle has their work cut out for them if they want to make a run to the postseason for the second year in a row.

Their schedule certainly does them no favors in the next few weeks. They are heading on the road to face the Dallas Cowboys and 49ers in consecutive weeks before returning home to host the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15.

That is a brutal schedule that could derail the team’s playoff hopes. If they want to remain competitive, the Seahawks should strongly consider making a move to bolster their weapons offensively.

NFL News & Rumors: J.D. McKissic, Seattle Seahawks Updates

Over at Bleacher Report, Ryan Fowler put together a list of six bargain free agents that contenders should look into signing. One of the players was running back J.D. McKissic, who Fowler believes should have a reunion in Seattle.

With running back Kenneth Walker ailing, the Seahawks could certainly use a little extra juice in their backfield. McKissic has proven to be a strong third-down contributor throughout his career, which Fowler touched on in his piece.

“Take a peek at the impact Jerick McKinnon has had in Kansas City the last few postseasons.

A similar change of pace talent, JD McKissic could provide some electricity to an offense in need of a third-down piece out of the backfield.

Winning matchups remains of the utmost importance. And converting on third-downs in the playoffs usually paves the way for success. He’s not the sexiest name among the free agents still on the market, but his skillset fits the modern game that could be that final piece to an offensive arsenal,” wrote Fowler.

NFL News & Rumors: J.D. McKissic, Seattle Seahawks Updates

McKissic spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas State. The last three seasons he spent with the Washington Commanders, where he proved to be one of the better third-down backs in the league.

In 2020, McKissic was targeted 110 times, catching 80 passes for 569 yards and two touchdowns. That kind of passing game production is something Seattle could use more of.

Thus far in 2023, Seahawks running backs have caught 46 passes for 302 yards and one touchdown. Adding a versatile weapon such as McKissic would provide Geno Smith with another reliable set of hands in the passing game and someone who can be relied upon on passing downs as a receiver and blocker.
