Seahawks Get QB Of The Future In New NFL Mock Draft

The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the most surprising teams in the NFL this season, as they got out to a 6-3 start and were atop the NFC West. Alas, things have come crashing back to Earth relatively quickly, as just five weeks later the Seahawks are now on the outside looking in of the playoff picture and the San Francisco 49ers have clinched the division title.

Seattle has lost four out of their last five games since the four-game winning streak got the team on track. That leaves them a lot of work to do in the final three weeks of the season if they want to make a run at clinching a Wild Card spot. They will be tested as they head on the road to face the Kansas City Chiefs next week before hosting the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams to close out the season.

Regardless of how things turn out, the Seahawks are in a great position heading into the future. Not only have they remained competitive even after trading away Russell Wilson and releasing Bobby Wagner, but they are also going to be in a position to upgrade the roster in a major way this offseason.

Thanks to the Broncos, the Seahawks are very likely going to have a top-five pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Denver has been abysmal this season as they are currently in the No. 2 spot, but that selection will head over to Seattle because of the Wilson trade.

A lot of debate could be had about which direction the team should go in with that selection. The defense needs to be improved and there are some stout defenders that they could use this pick on. Instead, Josh Edwards of CBS Sports believes Seattle will lock in their quarterback of the future and select Will Levis out of Kentucky.

This move would likely mean that Seattle lost Geno Smith in free agency, who is having a renaissance season being a starter for the first time since 2014. He has had an incredible season and it would be hard to imagine giving up on him now, but their minds could be swayed depending on how this season ends.

If they want to stabilize their future, this is as good of a chance as they will get as they’ve proven to be a competitive team. They will get only better this offseason by upgrading the weaknesses on the roster, so the selection of Levis does make some sense.

He could sit behind Smith for a year or two as a quarterback that has all of the tools but could use some more development. An argument could be made that he is the most NFL-ready quarterback of this class since he ran an NFL-style offense with Liam Coen and Rich Scangarello as offensive coordinators.

Levis has compact fundamentals, a huge arm and rushing ability, as he is the total package at the quarterback position. This season he played in 11 games, completing 65.4 percent of his passes for 2,406 yards with 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
