The Seattle Seahawks have hit a rough patch in the last few weeks. Entering their Week 14 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, they are riding a three-game losing streak and watching their playoff hopes dwindle. To make things worse, there is a new concern when it comes to starting quarterback Geno Smith.

For the last few weeks, Smith has been dealing with a bruised triceps on his throwing arm. He hasn’t missed any games, but the effects of the injury have been visible as Smith is stretching things out and trying to keep loose constantly on the sidelines.

While the Seahawks have already been doing their best to monitor that, they now have another concern to worry about. Smith popped up on the injury report on Thursday with a groin issue and was a limited participant in practice.

This is certainly a troublesome development for the Seahawks. Smith admitted when talking to reporters on Wednesday that his arm was still not 100 percent nor close to it, so adding another injury to deal with on top of it will not be easy to handle.

If the Seahawks are going to pull the upset off over the 49ers this weekend, they need Smith playing at a very high level. Something similar to what he and the offense were able to do on Thursday Night Football against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 13 would be ideal.

Smith and the Seahawks scored 35 points in a historic, high-scoring affair in which neither team punted the ball in. Unfortunately, Seattle came out on the short end of the stick, losing 41-35 and dropping their record to 6-6 on the season.

“I think just overall, if you look at the way we played, just the effort we played with, the intent that we broke the huddle with, just the way that the receivers ran and caught the ball, the protection, anytime you’re scoring a lot of points, that’s something that you want to build on,” Smith told reporters.

“For us, we know that each game is going to be different, every game is a different game. You get a new set of downs, and we have to focus on executing one play at a time. We can build on it, but we can’t allow that to let us get complacent. We have to go out there and we have to earn it every single time.”

The Cowboys have had flashes of being a dominant defense this season, but they aren’t on the level of the 49ers. San Francisco has been dominating opponents all season long, making for what could be a long Sunday for Smith and the Seahawks offense, especially if he is hampered in more ways than one.
