The former third overall pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars took a few seasons to really pop in the NFL. Prior to 2019, he never recorded more than 10 sacks in a season or more than 15 quarterback hits. Last season was easily his most productive outing, as Fowler racked up 11.5 sacks and 16 hits on the QB, both career highs.
At just 25-years-old, Fowler could potentially be a hot commodity in free agency as well, but it’s doubtful he’ll see the same kind of pay day that Clowney will.
Fowler is also very versatile, as he’s played with his hand in the ground as a 4-3 defensive end as well as a stand up pass rushing outside linebacker. Seattle tends to use multiple fronts out of their base 4-3 defense, so Fowler would fit right in scheme wise.
Determining who is the better pass rusher, Fowler or Clowney, is no easy task. The Seahawks front office will need to do their homework before they decide which route to take here.
But, if Clowney joins another squad come March, Fowler will surely be on the team’s radar.
