Speculation Rising Cowboys Could Fire Mike McCarthy If They Lose Wild Card

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing to take on the San Francisco 49ers in what could be a very entertaining Wild Card matchup. However, a lot could be at stake for head coach Mike McCarthy. Should the Cowboys end up losing to the 49ers, there is rising speculation that McCarthy could end up being fired.

Jerry Jones and company are expecting nothing short of a run in the NFL Playoffs. After a great season that saw the Cowboys end with a 12-5 record, a first-round out would be a brutal way to end things.

McCarthy has had a very inconsistent start to his tenure with the Cowboys. He has some supporters, but there are also a lot of people who want to see Dallas make a coaching change.

The Volume shared some speculation that McCarthy could be fired. Take a look at the video for more on the topic.

Looking at their matchup against the 49ers, there are no reasons why they should not pick up a win. They are the better team on both sides of the football when they play up to their potential. But, if they come in overlooking the 49ers, a loss is very much a possibility.

One of the issues that McCarthy has had over the years both with the Cowboys and back with the Green Bay Packers, was having his players ready for a big game. Too many times with the Packers, Green Bay came out flat. If that happens with the Cowboys this week, Dallas should strongly consider a coaching change.

Should the opposite happen, McCarthy should be safe. If Dallas comes out and dominates the 49ers, he should keep his job for at least one more year. He did lead the Cowboys to a very successful regular season.

All of that being said, this will be an interesting game to watch. For Mike McCarthy, his job could be on the line. Just add more to the stakes for the Cowboys entering this weekend’s Wild Card showdown.
