The Chicago Bears may have lost to the Denver Broncos on Sunday afternoon, but there was a silver lining: quarterback Justin Fields looked great.
As a matter of fact, Next Gen Stats demonstrated how Fields actually had the best game of his NFL career in the defeat.
Unfortunately, Fields made a couple of crucial errors down the stretch. He lost a fumble that resulted in a defensive touchdown, and he also threw a game-ending interception due to a miscommunication with tight end Cole Kmet.
Still, this performance was a massive step up from Week 3 when Fields went 11-for-21 with 99 yards.
On the season overall, Fields has thrown for 861 yards, seven touchdowns and five picks while completing 64.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 86.8. He has also carried the ball 28 times for 134 yards and a score.
Going into Week 4, many were wondering if the Bears could eventually bench Fields this season if the youngster’s struggles continued. But Fields certainly bought himself some more time with his outing, and who knows? Maybe he has finally turned a corner.
The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Ohio State, was originally selected by Chicago with the 11th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
It has been a struggle for Justin Fields ever since, as the Bears have gone just 5-24 in his starts.
Through 31 appearances and 29 starts, Fields has totaled 31 touchdowns and 26 interceptions while completing 60.5 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 80.9.
The Bears will aim to pick up their first win of 2023 when they take on the Washington Commanders on Thursday night.
