The Defense Will Look to Repeat 2019

The mid-season trade for Minkah Fitzpatrick provided a considerable boost for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The defense as a whole took a step forward and kept the team in contention for a playoff spot despite such underwhelming offensive results.

The 38 turnovers the Steelers forced last season was more than any other team in the NFL. Additionally, they allowed opposing teams to score only 303 points (T-5th) and reach 4,866 total yards (5th). It’s safe to say they were genuinely an elite unit.

The Steelers managed to keep many of their key defensive players from last season, too. In fact, they ended up only losing Javon Hargrave and Mark Barron earlier in the offseason, allowing for the defense to maintain plenty of continuity.

It’s reasonable to believe the Steelers could build off what they achieved defensively last season. If Pittsburgh manages to get that done, they will be giving the offense everything it needs to control the destiny of the team in 2020.
