The Pittsburgh Steelers did something in Week 11 they haven’t done very much of in recent years; they lost to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns were able to pull out a 13-10 victory over their AFC North rivals in a physical, defensive-minded game.
It was the kind of performance Cleveland is going to need to remain in the playoff race in the AFC. With starting quarterback Deshaun Watson sidelined for the remainder of the season, rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson will be leading the offense in his place.
He did just enough to put the Browns in position to defeat the Steelers, splitting the season series. That is the blueprint for how they will move forward this season with DTR at quarterback, but it wasn’t a performance that impressed everyone.
One person who seemingly came away feeling like that was Steelers legendary quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. During a recent episode of his podcast, he took a shot at his old rivals following the matchup in Week 11.
“I mean this is the Browns’ Super Bowl. That’s the Super Bowl for them,” said Roethlisberger.
While the Browns have improved since Roethlisberger retired from the NFL, he found plenty of success against them in his career. The Steelers were 26-3-1 against the Browns with Roethlisberger at the helm, as he had more wins in Cleveland during his career than most of their recent starting quarterbacks.
The series between the AFC North rivals is going to remain a competitive one, especially if the Steelers cannot figure things out on offense. Pittsburgh didn’t gain 200 yards of offense again, as a large chunk of their production came on a single Jaylen Warren rush.
His 74-yard touchdown on the second play of the second half was about the only positive thing for the team’s offense in the game. That certainly contributed to offensive coordinator Matt Canada being fired on Tuesday morning.
It was a move people have been waiting for as the Steelers have been near the bottom of the league in most offensive categories during his tenure with the team. Roethlisberger provided an opinion on that as well, as he believes his former backup, Byron Leftwich, would be perfect for the vacant offensive coordinator job.
