Super Bowl LIV: 3 reasons the build up has been among the quietest ever

(Mary F. Calvert/Reuters)

1. Impeachment Process

For only the third time in United States history, a sitting United States President has been impeached. This week marked an integral part of the impeachment trial with the process moving into the Senate.

After both sides offered opening statements, rebuttals, and verbal barbs, attention was turned to whether or not witnesses would be permitted to testify in front of the United States Senate.

In what has been an extremely volatile hearing, in which both sides clamored that the other side was acting in a purely partisan manner that was detrimental to the well-being of the country, a deciding vote of 53-47 was cast in favor of denying witnesses the opportunity to testify in front of the Senate.

In what has become an extremely divided nation where the citizens seemingly root for their political parties in the same fashion that they do their favorite sports teams, the coverage of the impeachment process has taken away from the attention that would typically be given to the Super Bowl.
