Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis left his team’s loss to the Houston Texans due to an ankle injury on Sunday, and on Monday, head coach Mike Vrabel was asked if the fact that the Titans are now eliminated from playoff contention would play into his decision as to whether or not Levis will play against the Seattle Seahawks next weekend.

“I don’t think that necessarily weighs into the decision right now,” Vrabel said, via Jim Wyatt of the Titans’ official team website. “We want to make sure, one, that Will can protect himself, and that he can do his job up to the expectations that we have.”

Levis went 17-for-26 with 199 yards and an interception before exiting.

“Really, the most important thing is that any player can protect themselves out there during the game,” added Vrabel. “It’s Monday right now. He’s sore, obviously, like a lot of guys. And we’ll see how things go.”

Levis replaced Ryan Tannehill as the full-time starting signal-caller midway through the season. Through eight starts, he has thrown for 1,792 yards, eight touchdowns and four picks while completing 59 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 85.3.

The 24-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Penn State and the University of Kentucky, was selected by the Titans in the second round of the NFL Draft back in the spring.

Will Levis said after the Texans loss that he thought he would be fine moving forward, but Vrabel and Co. will have to make that call next Sunday.

During his final collegiate campaign at Kentucky, he threw for 2,406 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 65.4 percent of his passes.

Tennessee fell to 5-9 with its overtime loss to Houston. After battling the Seahawks on Christmas Eve, the Titans will move on to face the Texans (again) and Jacksonville Jaguars to close out the regular season.
