There has been plenty of movement on the quarterback front in the NFL this offseason with some big moves already occurring. But, we have likely not seen the last of players being on the move at the position. There are still teams, like the Houston Texans, that might be open to a new quarterback.

One more quarterback who will likely be on the move this offseason is Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers traded up in the 2021 NFL Draft to select Trey Lance with the No. 3 overall pick. While Garoppolo held him off for the entire 2021 season, the organization is ready to hand the keys to the offense over to their young signal-caller.

Given the cap hit that he has, San Francisco will look to trade Garoppolo. Keeping him as a backup wouldn’t be the worst idea, as he knows the offense and could step into the starting role again in a pinch. But, the team is likely trying to do right by Garoppolo, who has helped them get to two NFC Championship Games in three years.

Garoppolo would likely want to have a chance to start again, but those jobs have been scooped up quickly throughout the league. The Indianapolis Colts seemed like a logical landing spot for Garoppolo, but they went in a different direction and landed Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons.

One team to keep an eye on in the Garoppolo sweepstakes, according to Sportsnaut, is the Houston Texans. Houston traded Deshaun Watson to the Cleveland Browns this offseason, picking up plenty of draft capital in the process and officially ending an era.

The only quarterback that Houston has in place is Davis Mills, who played a lot more than anyone could have predicted as a rookie in 2021. He will likely be the starter again this season so the Texans can get a true look at if he should be their future at the position.

As pointed out at Sportsnaut, there is a connection between the Texans and Garoppolo as Nick Caserio, who is general manager of the team, was part of the New England Patriots front office when they selected Garoppolo in 2014. So, there is a chance that Caserio likes Garoppolo as a player and would want to bring him into the fold.

However, the Texans don’t look like a team that will be very competitive in 2022. Trading prime draft capital for a quarterback on an expiring deal doesn’t seem like something they will jump at the chance to do. Turning 31-years old during the season, Garoppolo doesn’t fit the current timeline of the Texans to be worth trading a second-round pick for.
