Not Drafting Jalen Hurts Was A Big Mistake
Some may completely disagree with this stance. However, the Steelers do not have a quarterback that can replace Ben Roethlisberger if needed. In addition, Big Ben is not getting any younger and Pittsburgh does not have a long-term franchise quarterback.
Last season with Roethlisberger out due to injury, neither Mason Rudolph or Devlin Hodges showed the ability to start constantly. Hurts, on the other hand, reminds a lot of fans of Baltimore Ravens superstar Lamar Jackson.
Hurts ended up being taken by the Philadelphia Eagles with the No. 53 overall pick. The Steelers had a great opportunity to draft their quarterback of the future.
During the 2019 season with the Oklahoma Sooners, Hurts completed 69.7 percent of his pass attempts for 3,851 yards, 32 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He also racked up 1,298 yards and 20 touchdowns with his legs.
Pittsburgh may not end up regretting this move. Claypool will be a solid long-term weapon for the Steelers, but Hurts would have been an ideal pick. Only time will tell whether or not this was a huge mistake, but if Hurts reaches his full potential, this could end up being a regret.
Hopefully, Roethlisberger returns to full healthy and can play for a couple more seasons. If that is the case, the Steelers could target a quarterback next offseason. Hurts would have been a great addition, but the Steelers needed help at wide receiver and they are happy with their pick.
