Not Drafting DK Metcalf Was A Huge Error By The Colts
One of the most intriguing storylines throughout the entire 2019 NFL Draft was the slip that DK Metcalf went through. Some had projected him to be a top-10 or top-15 pick. He ended up being selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the No. 64 overall pick.
Indianapolis took Campbell with the No. 59 overall pick and were in prime position to take Metcalf.
Obviously, there were some concerns surrounding Metcalf that a lot of teams had. He had a lot of health issues in college, wasn’t very productive, and had a hard time running a full route tree. As a rookie with the Seahawks, he proved his critics wrong.
Metcalf ended up catching 58 passes for 900 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season. In the playoffs, he put together a massive Wild Card performance against the Philadelphia Eagles, racking up seven receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown.
Needless to say, the Colts might very well regret passing up on him. At 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds with elite speed and athleticism, Metcalf would have been a perfect fit across from T.Y. Hilton. A quarterback like Rivers would have had a field day with that duo.
Hopefully, Campbell can help the Colts not regret this as much with a big second season in 2020. Metcalf got away from the Colts and it hurts. But, there is nothing the franchise can do about it.
It will be interesting to see how Campbell and Metcalf continue developing. Right now, however, the Colts made a massive mistake by passing on Metcalf and letting him fall to the Seahawks just five picks later.
