This Chiefs-Seahawks Trade Sends DK Metcalf To Kansas City

The Kansas City Chiefs have made some major changes to their wide receiver room this offseason. Three of their top four wide receivers from last season have moved on this offseason to other teams. Another move could be on the horizon, with a ton of trade rumors suggesting a move with the Seattle Seahawks for DK Metcalf.

Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson departed in free agency, agreeing to deals with the Chicago Bears and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively. The biggest move, however, was the trade of Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. Hill landed a monster four-year, $120 million contract with $72 million guaranteed.

The Chiefs received five draft picks in return for Hill, some of which could be used to select his replacement. Kansas City didn’t sit idly by in free agency, as they signed JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling to take over the starting jobs. Justin Watson was also brought in for added depth.

While replacing Hill will be virtually impossible, as there really isn’t another player in the NFL like him, the Chiefs did receive some excellent assets in return for him. Not only did they get the draft picks, but they also opened up a lot of cap space which will enable them to fill other holes on the roster.

Making a trade with the New York Giants to acquire cornerback James Bradberry is one move that has been rumored. But, over at Bleacher Report, they suggested going even bigger, replacing Hill with another superstar wide receiver in D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle has turned away any overtures made about acquiring Metcalf, but maybe a big offer would catch their attention. Bleacher Report’s deal of the No. 29, 30 and 94 overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft and a 2023 fourth-round pick could pique their interest.

The Seahawks are seemingly entering a rebuild with Russell Wilson being traded to the Denver Broncos and Bobby Wagner being released. If they are heading in that direction, this trade would give them the ammunition to move up in the 2022 NFL Draft and select their quarterback of the future should there be a prospect they like.

For the Chiefs, this trade could put them in a similar position as they were in this year with Hill. Metcalf is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will be looking for a massive contract next offseason. Can they afford to pay Metcalf?

That is something we would have to wait and see, but there would be no doubt that this year’s Chiefs offense would be virtually unstoppable through the air with the addition of Metcalf. Smith-Schuster and Valdes-Scantling as the No. 2 and 3 receivers with Travis Kelce still dominating at tight end would cause endless headaches for opposing defenses.

With the arms race that occurred in the AFC West this offseason, the Chiefs acquiring DK Metcalf to replace Hill would be the next salvo in what will be an incredible race to the top of the division in 2022.
