This Cowboys-Texans Trade Sends Brandin Cooks To Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys are going to be in the market for some wide receiver help this offseason. CeeDee Lamb proved capable of handling the No. 1 role after Amari Cooper was traded to the Cleveland Browns last offseason. However, the team could certainly use some help behind him.

Michael Gallup showed some flashes of returning to form but looks to need a little longer to fully recover from his torn ACL. Behind him, there wasn’t much for the offense to consistently rely on.

Free agent James Washington broke his foot and ended up suiting up in only two games, garnering one target. Rookie Jalen Tolbert had only three targets all season in eight games. Their second most productive wide receiver last season, Noah Brown, is set to hit free agency along with late-season addition T.Y. Hilton.

People who question Dallas’ thought process about bringing in a wide receiver after trading Cooper have a point. But, there is no denying that this offense needs some help as they are likely having some regrets about making that deal. The team needs a capable replacement and should call their fellow Texas residents, the Houston Texans.

The Texans have veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks on their roster who has been seeking a trade for a while now. There were rumors that the Cowboys nearly pulled a deal off for him ahead of the trade deadline and if they can clear the necessary cap space, they should have interest again.

Trading Cooks would save the Texans $10.2 million, so they will certainly be motivated to make a deal. Ahead of the deadline, their asking price was reportedly too high for teams, especially with how expensive his contract was. Knowing Cooks wants out and the money they can save, a deal should be easier to strike this time.

In a full-on rebuild, the Cowboys can offer the Texans a late Day 2 or early Day 3 selection in exchange for Cooks. The No. 91 or No. 130 selection in the 2023 NFL Draft should be enough to get Houston to part ways with the veteran pass catcher and give Dak Prescott a legitimate No. 2 option in the passing game.
