This Eagles-Vikings Trade Sends Dalvin Cook To Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Eagles are in a spot Super Bowl participants normally aren’t. They will be picking No. 10 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft despite playing in and falling just short in Super Bowl 57 against the Kansas City Chiefs a few months ago.

Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman has done an excellent job of maneuvering around the draft in recent years. He had found value in making deals with other teams, bringing in future draft capital to provide the team with flexibility and in-season additions.

In this year’s draft, the Eagles will be active early on as they have two first-round picks and four in the first three rounds. After that, we won’t see Philadelphia on the clock again until the seventh round.

Making deals during the draft could prove difficult, but there have been a few rumors swirling around about what their plans may be. The Eagles are a team people are keeping an eye on as a trade-back candidate, looking to recoup some middle-round picks.

If they can do that, keep an eye on them as a potential trade destination for Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. Cook will reportedly be on the move one way or another in the coming days, whether it is via trade or release.

It is hard to envision the Vikings receiving more than a Day 3 pick in return for him despite his on-field production as running back is a devalued position. If the Eagles are unable to complete a trade that recoups a fourth or fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, they will have to get creative in making a package for Cook.

What could a trade between Philadelphia and Minnesota look like? The Eagles could offer their third and seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft in exchange for Cook and the Vikings’ fifth-round pick. If they feel that is too much, the Eagles could offer the Vikings back their compensatory pick in the 2024 NFL Draft from the ill-fated Jalen Reagor trade that will be a fourth or fifth-round pick along with the seventh-rounder this year.

Cook remains a very productive running back but is owed a lot of money at a position no team wants to put assets toward. Getting their draft pick back for next year would probably be seen as a win as Reagor did virtually nothing for them this past season. Possibly entering a rebuild, having as many of their draft picks as possible is ideal.

For the Eagles, they finally land the running back upgrade they have been seeking out for months. Ahead of the deadline they checked in on Alvin Kamara and Christian McCaffrey. Cook is right near the upper echelon tier of running backs and provides the Eagles with a true bell cow in the backfield.
