If the Philadelphia Eagles end up trading wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason, could the Indianapolis Colts step in and try to make something happen?
The Colts had a recent receiving corps led by Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Alec Pierce this year, but Pittman is slated to be a free agent and the team may lose him.
In a world where Indianapolis does not choose to re-sign Pittman, a trade for a receiver like Brown suddenly becomes a possibility.
So, just why would the Eagles trade Brown?
Well, Brown showed some signs of discontent during the second half of the season, as his role decreased and he became frustrated with Philadelphia’s slide that saw the club lose five of its last six regular-season games. Philly was then routed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs, a game in which Brown did not play due to a knee injury.
While this does not necessarily mean that the Eagles will move Brown (they probably won’t), it is at least something to think about.
The Colts could trade a 2024 second-round draft pick as well as a fifth-rounder in exchange for Brown. This would immediately provide young quarterback Anthony Richardson with an elite target, and the Eagles would extract some fine draft capital out of the deal on their end.
Indianapolis went 9-8 and just missed the playoffs this season, and that was with Richardson missing most of the year due to a shoulder injury. With Richardson returning in 2024, the Colts could be one of the more interesting clubs in the NFL to monitor.
Adding A.J. Brown into the fold would only further establish that.
