The Chandler Jones era with the Las Vegas Raiders has not exactly been a successful one.
When the Raiders signed Jones to a $52.5 million deal in March 2022, he was expected to transform the club’s pass rush and solidify its defense overall.
And who could blame people for thinking that?
After all, Jones was a dominant force over the first decade of his NFL career, so the assumption was that production would carry over into Las Vegas.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, that has not happened.
Jones had a very disappointing debut season in Vegas, totaling just 38 tackles and 4.5 sacks. It marked the second-lowest sack total of his career, with his lowest coming in 2020 when he logged one sack after playing in just five games due to injury.
Now, Jones is displeased with the Raiders’ front office and seems to have no intention of playing for the club ever again. He is yet to suit up in 2023, so apparently, he is not kidding around.
As a result, it seems to be all but a foregone conclusion that Las Vegas will move the 33-year-old sometime between now and the Oct. 31 NFL trade deadline.
Perhaps the New Orleans Saints can enter the picture and make something happen?
The Saints are currently 2-0 and play in a terribly weak NFC South, so a division title is well within reach for the team. For that reason, you can certainly see New Orleans trying to add some pieces to its roster in the coming weeks.
The Saints can send a 2024 third-round draft pick to the Raiders in exchange for Jones, which would be a pretty nice haul for Las Vegas considering Jones isn’t even playing.
Jones is a four-time Pro Bowler and has earned a pair of First-Team All-Pro selections. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the New England Patriots before being dealt to the Arizona Cardinals.
