This Offensive Lineman Named Best Match For Bears In NFL Free Agency

The Chicago Bears have a lot of work to do this offseason to start turning the franchise around. There was a reason that they finished with the worst record in the NFL in 2022, landing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Before they figure out what to do with that pick, the Bears will have to figure out a plan of attack for free agency. If there is a player they want to bring to Chicago, general manager Ryan Poles will have no issues bringing that player in. Right now, he has more money to spend than any other general manager in the NFL as the Bears have nearly $95 million in cap space to spend.

There are plenty of positions on the roster that could use an upgrade. The pass rush was anemic last season and it will take more than just a top pick in the first round to fix that. The weapons around Justin Fields on offense are also lacking.

But, the biggest need in Chicago is arguably on the offensive line. The Bears failed to protect Fields last season with any success. Despite playing in only 15 games and attempting the fewest passes in the league, Fields was sacked a league-high 55 times.

Shoring up the offensive line is a must, which makes Jawaan Taylor the perfect fit in free agency for the Bears. Chicago led the league in rushing last season, but it wouldn’t hurt for that unit to improve in rushing and pass blocking.

In 2022, Taylor was excellent for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He tied with Lane Johnson of the Philadelphia Eagles for the most points earned with 37 based on the SIS rating. It was charted that Taylor missed only five blocks on running plays last season, which is an extraordinary number.

Only 25 years old, Taylor could be an anchor for this offensive line for years to come. While Fields’ skill set does lead to some sacks, there is no denying that the group blocking for him needs improvement. Taylor would be an instant plug-and-play upgrade for the Bears on their unit.
