The NFL rumor mill has been non-stop this offseason. Multiple blockbuster trades have already occurred and there could be more on the horizon with the 2022 NFL Draft just days away. Now, it has been reported that the Green Bay Packers are pursuing a trade for Las Vegas Raiders star tight end Darren Waller.

Is there a chance we see two of the best players at their respective positions be on the move during the draft? All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel has already requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers. While a trade request hasn’t been made, Las Vegas Raiders’ tight end Darren Waller has been involved in some rumors.

It was revealed on Monday that the Packers have been targeting Waller in a trade for a few weeks now. Waller was someone that the Packers wanted to acquire in the Davante Adams trade negotiations, but players are not allowed to be used as compensation in a trade for a player on an unsigned franchise tag as Adams was.

The news was shared by Aaron Nagler of Cheesehead TV.

“According to a pair of league sources, however, the Packers are targeting a veteran tight end. Specifically, Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller. The Packers and Raiders have engaged in talks regarding a trade of Waller with an eye toward a deal getting done during this week’s NFL draft.”

Interest from the Packers is not surprising. They need to add as many weapons around Aaron Rodgers as they can find. While the need for a wide receiver would persist, they would at least have a go-to playmaker in Waller for Rodgers to get the ball to.

What could it cost the Packers to land Waller? Multiple draft picks would likely have to be used. Las Vegas would look to recoup some of the draft capital that they sent to Green Bay for Adams.

The Packers could start with their own second-round pick, No. 59. One of their two fourth-round picks, No. 132 or 140, should be included in the deal as well. No. 59 and 132 should be what Green Bay offers.

Would that be enough for Las Vegas? It would certainly be shocking to see the Raiders move on from Waller as he has developed into one of the best tight ends, but you can never count it out based on the reports that have been shared.

The Packers would be smart to get this deal done ASAP because if other teams know Waller is available and get involved, the price tag will continue rising beyond what the Packers are going to be offering right now.
