This Ravens-Titans Trade Sends Ryan Tannehill To Baltimore

The Baltimore Ravens find themselves in quite a predicament this offseason. Their franchise quarterback, Lamar Jackson, announced that he asked the team for a trade in early March, as he wants to move on from Baltimore. But, there has been very little movement on that front as other teams are focused more on the 2023 NFL Draft and quarterback prospects there.

After the draft, the market for Jackson could heat up. Teams that missed out on prospects could put together an offer sheet for the former MVP. At that point, the Ravens would then have the chance to match the offer sheet or allow him to leave, recouping two first-round picks in the process.

For argument’s sake, let’s say that Jackson does leave. The only quarterback currently under contract for 2023 is Anthony Brown as Tyler Huntley is a restricted free agent. For a team that has Super Bowl aspirations with Jackson under center, that is a grim outlook.

Going into the season with Huntley or Brown as the starter would be far from ideal. Finding a starting caliber quarterback this late into the offseason isn’t easy as options are limited. However, one could become available after the draft.

If the Ravens officially move on from Jackson, they should make a call to the Tennessee Titans and check in on Ryan Tannehill. There have been rumors this offseason that Tennessee is looking into this year’s prospects and has begun the process of seeing if Tannehill would fit anywhere in a trade.

Baltimore would be an ideal landing spot. They certainly want to be competitive even if Jackson isn’t on the roster and Tannehill has found plenty of success in recent seasons. The Titans have gone 36-19 with Tannehill as their starter the last four seasons, making the playoffs in his first three seasons with the franchise before his injury derailed their 2022 campaign.

What could a trade between the Ravens and Titans look like? Based on recent quarterback deals, a Day 3 pick would likely get the deal done. Baltimore could offer a conditional third-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft that could turn into a second based on some incentives, such as Tannehill reaching playing time thresholds or team success.

The 2012 first-round pick would provide the Ravens with a very good stopgap option for at least the 2023 season, as he is on an expiring contract. Turning 35 in July, Tannehill may only have a few seasons left as a starting-caliber quarterback.

At the very least, Tannehill is someone that knows how to manage a game and lead his teams to wins. With rumors swirling that the Ravens aren’t dead set against taking a quarterback in the first round, Tannehill would provide the team with a viable veteran to keep the seat warm until the youngster is ready.

For Tennessee, the rebuild already looks to have begun. Netting an early Day 3 or late Day 2 pick in exchange for Tannehill is good value based on what other veteran quarterbacks, such as Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan, fetched in trades in recent offseasons.
