This Stat Shows How Dominant Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes Really Is

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

We all know Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is great. I don’t think anyone would deny that.

However, sometimes, we have trouble putting into perspective just how great he really is. The good news is that Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis has a good way of quantifying it.

Sharp posted an insane stat on his X account on Saturday, displaying just how far above Mahomes is compared to the rest of his competition.

Everyone always says that Mahomes is chasing Tom Brady, and that’s true. Brady is the gold standard for NFL quarterbacks. He has won seven Super Bowl championships and has competed in 10. No other signal-caller has won more than four, so he is in a league of his own.

Thus far, Mahomes has captured three championships and has been a part of four Super Bowls, so he still has a long way to go to catch Brady in terms of actual hardware.

But he has more than doubled up Brady as far as playoff touchdowns are concerned over the first seven years of their respective careers.

Of Mahomes’ 46 total postseason touchdowns, 41 of them have come through the air. He has also only thrown eight interceptions in the playoffs.

The 28-year-old has played in a grand total of 18 playoff games thus far, which is essentially a full season. He has thrown for 5,135 yards while completing 67.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 105.9 throughout that span.

Yes, the NFL is very different nowadays. It’s certainly more pass-heavy, so it may not necessarily be fair to compare quarterbacks of previous eras to Mahomes. Perhaps guys like Brady, Brett Favre and Joe Montana would have racked up over 40 touchdown passes had their peaks overlapped with Mahomes in the 2020s.

But the numbers are the numbers, and it’s obvious that Mahomes is a cut above the rest when it comes to finding the end zone on the biggest stage.

Also, on a completely separate note, how about Joe Flacco coming in at No. 3 on the list with 26 touchdowns? So yes; again, era matters, but let’s also just appreciate Mahomes’ greatness.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowl championships next season.
