This trade for Yannick Ngakoue would be ideal for the Jaguars and Browns

Making The Case For The Jaguars

Trading away a 25-year-old like Yannick Ngakoue isn’t the greatest way to rebuild, but the Jaguars are very early in this overall process. Moving on from an unhappy talent in exchange for the top asset being a draft pick would better position Jacksonville in the long-term.

It certainly wouldn’t hurt the Jaguars to be able to add Njoku into the mix. He could step in from day one and provide a helpful impact in the team’s offense while being a part of Jacksonville’s building process. He will be just 24-years-old at the start of the 2020 season, too.

Including the upcoming season, Njoku is signed for two-seasons worth $9.52M total. The Jaguars wouldn’t have to dedicate a significant portion of their salary cap spending to roster him and would have time to determine a fair price for a potential contract extension.

The Jaguars could be building an excellent war-chest of draft picks gearing up for the 2021 NFL Draft. They already have all of their own picks along with a first and fourth rounder from the Los Angeles Rams in part of the Jalen Ramsey trade.

Managing to add an additional second-round pick would position the Jaguars to have five selections within the top 100 of the draft order. Considering they already aren’t supposed to win many games in 2020, some of those could be quite early in each round.
