Making The Case For The Browns
It wouldn’t come cheap, but the Cleveland Browns are positioned arguably better than any other NFL team to be able to pull off a trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars for Yannick Ngakoue.
Being able to pair Myles Garrett with Ngakoue would be rather intriguing right out of the gate and would be a duo that could play together for the long-term. Teams would have to worry about both edges of the defensive line and that simplifies things for the rest of the unit considerably.
The Browns made a legitimate push to pursue Jadeveon Clowney in free agency, even offering him the most compensation of any team. Clowney didn’t have interest in playing for Cleveland and that means they should shift course to an alternative option.
Giving up Njoku to make this deal work wouldn’t put the Browns in a difficult position. They signed Austin Hooper earlier in the offseason and also used a fourth-round selection to bring in former FAU standout Harrison Bryant.
Making aggressive moves like a deal for Ngakoue would be categorized as being is an ideal way to accelerate the team-building process. Cleveland already bolstered the trenches on the offensive line earlier in the offseason and this would solidify the front on defense.
