The Tennessee Titans have high hopes for second-year wide receiver Treylon Burks heading into the 2023 season. The 2022 first-round pick out of Arkansas had some struggles as a rookie but was looking good this offseason.
Unfortunately for him, his start to the 2023 season could now be delayed. During the Titans’ joint practice with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday, Burks got open deep in the secondary and caught a deep pass from quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
After securing the catch, Burks stumbled because of his forward momentum, as he lost his balance and somersaulted into the end zone. A nice play nonetheless, but the outcome was certainly far from ideal for him and the Titans.
Burks got up and spiked the ball in frustration as he needed help from the trainers to get off the field. It turned out that he injured his knee, suffering an LCL according to the MRI that he underwent. As shared by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, that is good news, all things considered when it comes to the damage a knee can sustain.
There is a chance that Burks could be on the field for the Titans in Week 1 when they face off against the New Orleans Saints. The estimated timetable for recovery is anywhere from 2-6 weeks, so if he can get back on the early side of that, he should have at least a week to prepare for the season opener.
Luckily for the Titans, they were able to sign DeAndre Hopkins a few weeks ago, so Tannehill at least has a go-to receiver still to rely on. But, with Burks sidelined, the depth chart behind Hopkins leaves a lot to be desired.
Last season, the Arkansas product caught 33 passes for 444 yards and one touchdown, showing flashes of his immense potential. Heading into Year 2, with Hopkins in the fold, those numbers are expected to take a major jump. Hopefully, this isn’t an injury that lingers and Burks will be back on the field 100 percent ready to go in no time.
