Despite unequivocally saying that his playing career is over, Tom Brady continues to see his name brought up as a possible option for the Las Vegas Raiders should things with Jimmy Garoppolo does not work out. Garoppolo may not be cleared to play at the start of the season after failing his physical in March, throwing a wrench in the team’s quarterback plans.

Tom Brady has been adamant that he will not be stepping on the field. The only thing that he will be doing with the Raiders is becoming a partial owner of the team. He is in the process of buying a piece of the franchise, and while financials haven’t been released, it is believed to be more than ceremonial.

However, Tom Brady isn’t going to be taking over a huge role with the team. He recently opened up to the Associated Press about his intentions and his role will be a passive one. However, it is one that he intends on holding onto for a very long time as he wants to be involved in football for the rest of his life.

“This is something that I’m interested in doing for the rest of my life,” Brady said. “This is not something that I’m into it for a year or two years. You know, I’ve got a lot of responsibility with my Fox job, which I take very seriously. But if I’m looking over the course of my life, to have the opportunity to be involved in the NFL is a dream come true. And if I could help the NFL and continue to contribute in a positive way, then you know, that’s been a very enjoyable part of my life.”

How did Tom Brady end up picking the Raiders as the franchise that he wanted to stake a claim to? He believes they are one of the most iconic franchises in the NFL and said joining them in any capacity is a dream come true to follow in the footsteps of Al Davis.

“When I look at a lot of the people that have impacted the NFL over a long period of time in the most positive way, Al Davis is one of them,” Brady said. “And he’s not with us anymore but I’ve heard incredible stories. And then the opportunity came about to become a minority owner in the Raiders, it was a dream come true for me.”

There are rumors that Tom Brady will eventually look to purchase a larger portion of the team. Down the road, once he has the money to do so, some people believe that he will become the controlling owner of the Raiders.

That would entail him becoming more involved than he currently will be, as he would need to be more than passive in that situation. But, for now, he is content with being a small-time owner with a small role living out a dream that he has had for a long time.
