Thinking about where you’d want to play if given the choice during the NFL Draft is fun to consider. That’s something Tua Tagovailoa did when mentioning the Dallas Cowboys during a recent interview with NFL Network’s Steve Wyche.
When asked about being able to choose an ‘ideal scenario’ with the upcoming NFL Draft, Tagavoiloa stated he’d probably say playing for the Cowboys.
“If you’re saying to me, if I can choose what team I want to play on, as far as my favorite team growing up, then I probably tell you the Cowboys, but they are so far down (the draft board),” Tagovailoa said.
Being drafted by the Cowboys would present a scenario for Tagovailoa to learn from franchise-quarterback Dak Prescott. Filling a role having to learn under a starter isn’t something the Alabama product would be opposed to doing.
“I’m not trying to bump [Dak Prescott] — I’ll learn under him,”he said. “I’d handle it the way that the coaches there want to handle it. Honestly, I just want to be able play again. I wouldn’t mind learning under whatever guy that’s the starter. Give me a whole year to rest up and then go back out and compete, but I just want to go back out and play.”
The Cowboys will likely keep Prescott whether after agreeing to a contract extension or using the franchise-tag. That makes it unlikely for them to use the NFL Draft to select a quarterback like Tagovailoa.
It will be interesting to see where Tua Tagovailoa ends up being selected because there is a wide range of possibilities. Teams could look to move up to take him while there is also a risk he falls after his injury.
