The Miami Dolphins got exactly what they were hoping for when they acquired Tyreek Hill from the Kansas City Chiefs last offseason. The price was steep, as Miami sent first, second and fourth-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft and a fourth and sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to Kansas City in exchange for him.

Tyreek Hill played in all 17 games, catching 119 passes for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns. It was a career season for the seven-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro as he showed no ill effects going from Patrick Mahomes to Tua Tagovailoa as his starting quarterback. production could have been even higher had Tagovailoa and Teddy Bridgewater not suffered injuries, forcing Skylar Thompson into the starting lineup.

Through one season, Tyreek Hill lived up to the lofty expectations that he had. Not only did the Dolphins pay a premium package to acquire him, but they also signed him to a massive four-year extension worth $120 million, which set records for average annual contract value and guaranteed money for a non-quarterback.

Tyreek Hill’s contract runs through 2026, but there is no guaranteed money on his deal after 2024. After 2025 is likely when the Dolphins would move on from him as his cap hit for the 2026 season is $56,308,750 and cutting him would save $45 million.

However, if he sticks to the plan that he has, the Dolphins won’t have to release him; Hill will be retired. Tyreek Hill recently revealed that he is planning to retire after the 2025 season, which will be his 10th in the NFL.

“I’m going for 10, man,” Hill said in reference to 10 career seasons. “I’m gonna finish out this contract with the #Dolphins and then I’m gonna call it quits. I want to go into the business side. I want to do so many things in my life, bro.”

Hearing someone talking about retirement when still at the top of their game is certainly surprising. Tyreek Hill just entered the prime of his career and has plenty of great football ahead of him.

But, he has made it clear that he has big plans for after football that he intends to get started on in two years. This will also help the Dolphins plan for the future knowing that Hill only intends to play three more seasons before calling it quits.
