Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill will be taking on his former Kansas City Chiefs teammates when the two squads meet in Germany this Sunday, and ahead of the meeting, he provided some details on exactly what went down when the Chiefs traded him to the Dolphins in March 2022.

During an appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast this week, Hill said that his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, tried to bait the Chiefs into giving Hill a new contract, but Kansas City was not able to offer the type of money that Hill desired.

That was when a trade come into the picture, and the Dolphins and the New York Jets were the two frontrunners to land Hill. Hill said Miami offered him $70 million guaranteed while the Jets actually were willing to give him $76 million. However, Hill’s mother told him that he needed to take the fact that Florida does not have any state taxes into consideration.

Hill, who was originally selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, added that playing in South Beach was really a dream for him, which was why he ultimately chose to go to the Dolphins.

Two years into the deal, it seems safe to say that Hill made the right decision.

The 29-year-old has flourished since joining Miami. In his first season with the club, he hauled in 119 receptions for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns. Through eight games this season, Hill has already logged 61 catches and is leading the NFL with 1,014 receiving yards and eight receiving scores. As a matter of fact, he is on pace to shatter the single-season record for receiving yards in 2023.

Plus, the Dolphins made the playoffs in his debut campaign last year and seem to be well on their way to getting back there again this season, as they are sitting in first place in the AFC East at 6-2.

Tyreek Hill has made the Pro Bowl in each of his first seven seasons and is all but a lock to notch his eighth straight appearance this year. He has also notched First-Team All-Pro honors three times.
