The 2020 NFL season is almost here after what has been a stressful and uncertain offseason. Thankfully, the Green Bay Packers are in full training camp mode and the season appears likely to start on time.
Despite an offseason marred by concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the NFL has pushed forward. They found ways to continue forward with free agency and the NFL Draft. Now, there is a ton of optimism that the league can pull off a complete season.
Heading into the upcoming season, the Packers are a relatively unknown quantity in the NFC playoff chase. Some believe they will be a serious contender once again, while others are expecting a major regression.
Aaron Rodgers has faced a ton of criticism this offseason, but he has extra motivation following the Packers’ decision to trade up for Utah State quarterback Jordan Love in the draft. He still believes that he can lead the Packers to another Super Bowl.
All of that being said, USA Today has made a very unimpressive prediction for the Packers in 2020. They have Green Bay going 9-7 on the season, but still pulling out an NFC North division title win.
Obviously, dropping to just nine wins from 13 last season would be a major step back. However, there was a heavy sentiment last year that the Packers won more games than they should have. Green Bay isn’t going to like this prediction.
In recent years, the same USA Today writer that made this prediction, Nate Davis, has struggled to predict the Packers’ season outcome. Last season, he predicted that Green Bay would finish 9-7 and miss the playoffs. Back in 2018, he thought the Packers would finish 11-5 and make the playoffs.
Most Packers fans will know that the team finished 13-3 last season and made the playoffs. In 2018, they missed the playoffs.
It will be interesting to see what the Packers have in store for 2020. They have a very talented roster, but did not make any major additions in the offseason. Only time will tell, but fans are not going to love this prediction from USA Today.
