Vikings’ Justin Jefferson Breaks This Incredible Randy Moss Record

The nightcap of the Thanksgiving Day games between the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings was a solid matchup to end things on. Just like the two games before them, this one was a one-score affair that pretty much went down to the final whistle.

The Vikings bounced back in a major way after a disappointing, flat performance against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11. Minnesota lost that game 40-3 but was able to defeat the Patriots 33-26. Kirk Cousins was able to shake his prime-time blues for at least one game, as he had a very good game completing 30-of-37 passes for 299 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Once again the main beneficiary of Cousins’ success was Justin Jefferson. Throughout his career as head coach of the Patriots, Bill Belichick has been known to neutralize the No. 1 weapon on the other team. Jefferson would be that player for the Vikings, but New England had no success in stopping him.

The star pass catcher finished the game with nine receptions for 139 yards and a touchdown, adding to what has been another incredible season for the LSU product. In the process of dominating the Patriots’ defense, Jefferson set an NFL record.

Former Vikings wide receiver Randy Moss has held the record for most receiving yards through the first three seasons of a career but that record now belongs to Jefferson. Despite having six more games to go in his third season, he has 4,248 receiving yards, surpassing Moss’s total of 4,163.

While he has fallen slightly short of the pace, Jefferson still has a chance at breaking the single-season receiving yard record that is currently held by Calvin Johnson. Thursday’s performance was the 21st 100-yard receiving game in Jefferson’s career as well, putting more space between him and second place, where Moss is tied with Odell Beckham Jr. of the New York Giants, who had 19 such games.

While his personal accolades are very impressive, the most important thing about them is that they are helping the Vikings win games. They are very close to clinching the NFC North title for the first time since 2017 and are on the heels of the Philadelphia Eagles, who are currently 9-1, for first place in the NFC.
