Vikings Receive Tough Injury Update On Young Cornerback

The Minnesota Vikings came into the 2022 offseason knowing that they needed to make some upgrades in their secondary. They struggled mightily in 2021 slowing down opponents’ passing games as their secondary had numerous underperforming players.

So, with the 42nd overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Vikings selected Clemson cornerback, Andrew Booth Jr. Cornerback is notoriously one of, if not the toughest positions for a rookie to play in the NFL. That likely had something to do with why it took some time for Booth to get inserted into the lineup.

Booth suffered a quad injury in the season opener against the Green Bay Packers, which caused him to miss four games from Week 2 through Week 5. However, when he returned to the lineup, he wasn’t part of the defensive game plan.

The Clemson product didn’t play a single snap defensively until Week 10 when he got on the field for 49 percent of the snaps against the Buffalo Bills. Before that, the only snaps he had been on the field for were on special teams.

The following week against the Dallas Cowboys, Booth was a nearly every down player. He was on the field for 94 percent of the defensive snaps and recorded nine tackles in the game. Unfortunately, that could be the last time we see him on the field this season.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Booth underwent surgery on Monday for an issue with his knee. There is a chance that he is sidelined for the remainder of the season as the decision about which procedure to undergo was decided during surgery. His recovery will be determined post-surgery.

That is a tough blow for a Minnesota team that has suffered numerous injuries to their secondary. In addition to Booth, Cam Dantzler and Akayleb Evans have also missed time because of injuries.

Minnesota is hoping that Dantzler can be activated off the IR this week and get back on the field possibly as soon as their game against the New York Jets this upcoming weekend. However, with a five-game lead in the NFC North, you can be sure that the Vikings will also proceed with caution when it comes to injuries.
