This offseason the Minnesota Vikings said goodbye to multiple long-time veterans. Wide receiver Adam Thielen was released as his cap hit was approaching $20 million and linebacker Eric Kendricks departed in free agency. Could another one have the same fate soon?

There have been rumors swirling throughout the offseason that running back Dalvin Cook was going to be moved. Whether it was via trade or release, the Vikings were set to move on from the four-time Pro Bowler to get some salary cap savings.

A move was expected before the 2023 NFL Draft or at the very least in the days following if teams were unable to fill their need for a running back. Now a few weeks past the draft, Cooks remains a member of the Vikings, but his time with the franchise could be coming to an end.

Thanks to some eagle-eyed people on social media, it has been revealed that the Vikings changed the banner on their Twitter page. Originally Cook was a part of the header along with Justin Jefferson, Kirk Cousins and T.J. Hockenson.

At some point recently, Cook has been removed from the photo and replaced by Alexander Mattison, who is expected to take the backfield over from him as well in 2023. It is something that people have noticed and are discussing why the change could have been made.

The most logical decision for the change is that the Vikings are getting closer to making a transaction involving Cook. As pointed out over at ProFootballTalk, an interview that was held with head coach Kevin O’Connell gave off the impression the franchise had already moved on.

No matter the fashion in which it is done, it seems as if it is a matter of when, not if, Minnesota will move on from Cook. His market should be a strong one as he is one of the few true three-down backs in the NFL.

The biggest obstacle to overcome is his contract. With the possibility of being released on the table, teams aren’t going to send many assets over to the Vikings in a trade. If Minnesota can get a future early Day 3 pick, they may jump at that offer.
