Commanders Linked To Star Pass Rusher In Free Agency

The Washington Commanders dealt their two top pass rushers at the NFL trade deadline this past October, moving both Chase Young and Montez Sweat.

As a result, the Commanders are certainly going to be in need of some pass-rushing help this offseason, and Bleacher Report’s NFL scouting department is eyeing the perfect target for them: Jacksonville Jaguars edge rusher Josh Allen.

Allen played in every game this season, racking up 66 tackles, 17.5 sacks, an interception, a couple of forced fumbles and eight passes defended en route to a Pro Bowl selection.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Kentucky, was selected by the Jaguars with the seventh overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a fantastic rookie campaign, registering 44 tackles, 10.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles, making a trip to the Pro Bowl for his efforts.

Injuries then limited Allen to just eight games in his third season, in which he finished with 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks. He rebounded well in 2021, appearing in 16 contests and posting 71 tackles, 7.5 sacks, a pick, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and four passes defended. He tallied similar numbers last year, recording 57 tackles, seven sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a defensive touchdown.

Allen did not truly break out until this season, however, and he is slated to be one of the top defensive players on the open market because of it.

The good news for Washington is that it will have a ton of cap room, so it should absolutely have the financial wherewithal to sign Allen this spring if it so pleases.

The Commanders ranked just 26th in the NFL in sacks this past season, so bringing a pass rusher like Allen into the fold would give them a massive boost.
