The Washington Football Team have quite a few questions to answer this offseason, including who their starting quarterback will be. After parting ways with Alex Smith, they are left with Taylor Heinecke as their current starter. However, it appears the franchise is interested in signing either Mitchell Trubisky or Ryan Fitzpatrick.
According to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, Washington is looking into signing one of the two free agent quarterbacks.
Either quarterback would be worth a shot for the Washington Football Team. They should both be fairly cheap options and would be worth taking a flier on for at least one season.
Last year with the Chicago Bears, Trubisky was benched in favor of Nick Foles. By the end of the season, however, he was back in the starting lineup. He ended the year with solid numbers, completing 67 percent of his pass attempts for 2,055 yards, 16 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Fitzpatrick, on the other hand, had a rough season himself. He started the year as the starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, but was replaced by Tua Tagovailoa. He ended the season as the starter as well and finished with a 68.5 completion percentage, 2,091 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Both players would be solid options for the Washington Football Team. They would both be able to step in and start. But, the franchise should not view them as legitimate long-term options until they prove otherwise.
It will be interesting to see what Washington does this offseason. Either of these two guys would be worth a shot, but the team also needs to add more weapons to their offense.
Expect to hear more rumors about the Washington Football Team. Don’t be shocked if Mitchell Trubisky or Ryan Fitzpatrick ends up being signed in free agency.
