Their Defense is One of the NFL’s Best
It has been said that defense wins championships, which should provide optimism for the Redskins. Through three weeks, they rank second in the NFL in both yards and points allowed.
Washington’s run defense, in particular, is much improved from last year when the Redskins had the league’s worst run defense. This year, the Redskins boast one of the NFL’s top 10 defenses against the run.
As for the Redskins’ secondary, it is led by former All-Pro and Pro Bowl cornerback Josh Norman. Second-year free safety Montae Nicholson plays alongside him, as do veterans D.J. Swearinger and Quinton Dunbar at strong safety and cornerback, respectively.
Swearinger leads the team with two interceptions thus far, while Dunbar has the other pick for the Redskins. Meanwhile, linebacker Mason Foster has the most tackles with 27 and defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis has the most sacks with three.
The Redskins likely aren’t one of the first teams that come to mind when people think of the league’s premier defensive units. But over the first three weeks, they have proven they deserve to be in that conversation.
