Washington Redskins: 4 Reasons They Will Make the Playoffs in 2018

Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Revamped Defense

The defense has been an Achilles heel to the team since the start of the decade. Last offseason, Washington promoted outside linebacker coach Greg Mansuky to be the third defensive coordinator in four seasons and the unit started off strong in earlier in the season before falling victim to the injury bug where nine players were placed on IR.

Washington spent their offseason retooling their defense with the signings of defensive back Orlando Scandrick, outside linebacker Pernell McPhee, and using most of their 2018 draft picks on the defensive side of ball with the selections of defensive tackle Da’Ron Payne, Tim Settle, safety Troy Apke, linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton, cornerback Greg Stroman, and drafting Adonis Alexander in the supplemental draft.

With returning starters in Josh Norman, Ryan Kerrigan, Zach Brown, and Jonathan Allen, The Redskins have a young, exciting defense that can turn heads in 2018.
