The Detroit Lions made a big move this offseason to boost their offense with the selection of Georgia star running back D’Andre Swift. They chose to take him with the No. 35 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. It was a move that has already excited the fans.
It has been a long time since the Lions had a consistent running back. They have tried quite a few different times with the latest being Kerryon Johnson. While Johnson is still on the roster, Swift should end up winning the starting job.
During the 2019 season with the Bulldogs, Swift ended up putting together a big year. He carried the football 196 times for 1,218 yards and seven touchdowns. Those numbers average out to 6.2 yards per carry.
Swift is a dangerous running back on the ground, but the Lions are also getting a threat through the air. He caught 24 passes for 216 yards and another score in 2019.
Georgia did not showcase Swift’s ability as a receiver very much. He has the ability and talent to become a lethal dual-threat back. This pick is going to help in all facets of the offense.
Pro Football Focus took to Twitter to share the five highest-graded plays of Swift’s career at Georgia. To say that they were impressive would be an understatement. These plays are going to excite Lions fans.

Detroit is looking to get back to playoff contention in the near future. They are running out of time to do so with Matthew Stafford still in his prime.
Too many talented players have come and gone since the Lions were viewed as legitimate contenders. Stafford got a lot of help when Detroit chose to take Swift. He could end up being the missing piece that takes their offense to the next level.
Expect to see D’Andre Swift come through with a big rookie season. He could even be in the running for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. If that is the case, he will go down as one of the biggest steals of the 2020 NFL Draft.
