When the Green Bay Packers decided to select Boston College running back AJ Dillon with their second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, most fans were shocked. Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams were already on the roster. Dillon wasn’t a necessary pick, but the Packers loved what they saw in him.

Standing in at 6-foot-0 and just under 250 pounds, Dillon is a big back. He is going to be a terror for opposing defenses to bring down.

During the 2019 season at Boston College, Dillon racked up huge numbers. He carried the football 318 times for 1,685 yards and 14 touchdowns. Those numbers average out to an impressive 5.3 yards per carry despite facing a large amount of stacked boxes.

There has been some concern about Dillon’s wear and tear from his college career, but the rookie running back has made it clear that he is fresh and ready to go.

Looking ahead at his rookie season with the Packers, a large role is not expected. Jones is the clear-cut starter and Williams was a big part of the offense last season. Green Bay will still look to get him involved.

With that being said, some Packers fans aren’t terribly excited about the pick. Pro Football Focus has released highlights of five plays that will absolutely change that for most in Green Bay.

Check out five of his best plays from his college career with Boston College:

No matter what kind of role the Packers end up carving out for AJ Dillon, he has the potential to be a big long-term addition. Jones wants a big contract extension and both he and Williams are in the final year of the rookie deals.

Dillon could end up being the starter for the Packers at some point in the near future. Matt LaFleur also wanted a third running back to rotate some carries away from Jones and Williams. He will fit in and play a niche role immediately.

All of that being said, this pick could end up looking great in a few years. Brian Gutekunst and company love the skill-set that Dillon brings to the field and fans are going to like what they see from him.
