What to expect from Elijah Moore in his rookie season with the Jets

Elijah Moore, Jets
NFL Analysis Network

The New York Jets snagged a steal when they managed to land former Ole Miss wide receiver Elijah Moore in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and Moore has the potential to be a stellar selection for the Jets.

Moore was expected to be a first round pick, and the fact that teams like the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers passed up on him makes no sense. He has the potential to become a star in the near future and the Jets should be ecstatic that he dropped to them in the second round.

He is an excellent receiver who can excel in the slot or out wide. Moore is also versatile enough to catch swing passes and turn them into 25-yard gains on even the most simple plays. If any second round receiver has the tools to be a candidate for the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Award, I’d put my money on Elijah Moore.

Moore stands at just 5-foot-9, but his height has never dampened his abilities in the past. He has a wide range of skills and he showcased that while at Ole Miss. In three seasons, Moore hauled in 189 receptions for 2,441 receiving yards and 16 receiving touchdowns. He also returned kicks and punts while at Ole Miss, and he could be valuable to the Jets in that way as well.

Zach Wilson will have a long-term player to grow with and to throw to, and the fact that the Jets were able to steal him in the second round is remarkable to me. I fully expect Moore to be a top five rookie wide receiver in 2021 for the New York Jets.

We are predicting that Moore should end up catching around 50 receptions for 600 yards and four touchdowns. For a rookie, those numbers are great production. He could even end up surpassing those predictions.

No matter what kind of numbers he puts up in his rookie season, the Jets are going to be very happy with their selection. Moore has big-time potential and will fit beautifully in New York for years to come.
