There were two quarterbacks above everyone else heading into the 2005 NFL Draft. The San Francisco 49ers were between two options, Utah’s Alex Smith and Aaron Rodgers from Cal. In the days leading up, Smith emerged as the front runner and San Francisco made him the No. 1 overall pick. Rodgers was forced to wait until the Green Bay Packers were on the clock at No. 24.

During his first three years in the league, Rodgers played in just seven games and served as a backup to Brett Favre. In 2008, Rodgers became the full time starter and threw for 4,038 yards and 28 touchdowns.

By 2010, Rodgers had Green Bay at the top of the league when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl. He was named Super Bowl MVP then won league MVP the following year. Rodgers added a second MVP award in 2014 with 38 touchdowns and just five interceptions.

Rodgers quickly turned into one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL when he was named the starter. He showed incredible arm talent and strength. For many years, Rodgers was considered the most gifted quarterback that the league has ever seen because of his ability to make any throw rolling to his right or left. He is an eight time Pro Bowler an was named First Team All-Pro twice.

In 2010, Rodgers threw 11 interceptions. He has not thrown double-digit interceptions since. In 2018, Rodgers started all 16 games and finished with just two interceptions in 597 pass attempts. Last season, Rodgers threw the ball 569 times and finished with 26 touchdowns and four interceptions.

Green Bay won 13 games in 2019 and earned a first-round bye. In the divisional round against the Seattle Seahawks, Rodgers finished 16-27 for 243 yards and two touchdowns. In the NFC Championship Game, the Packers went down big early and never stood a chance. Rodgers threw two interceptions and that’s where the season ended.

Rodgers is still under contract in Green Bay until the 2023 season. He is set to become a free agent in 2024. The Packers traded up to draft Utah State product Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. This was a head-scratching move considering that Rodgers is still one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL.

With that being said, where should Rodgers be placed on the list of active quarterbacks in the league?
