Marquez Valdes-Scantling
In the months leading up to the 2019 season, the Packers were extremely confident in Valdes-Scantling as the team’s No. 2 wideout. During his rookie season in 2018, Valdes-Scantling flashed potential in spurts, recording 38 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns.
However, in his second season in Green Bay, Valdes-Scantling failed to live up to the expectations that the team placed on him before the season began. The former fifth-round pick out of South Florida would contribute only 26 catches, 452 yards, and two touchdowns in 2019.
There’s no doubt that Valdes-Scantling fits the mold of a vertical threat in the offense. Last season, Valdes-Scantling averaged 17.4 yards per reception (eight-most in the NFL) and he had an average distance of 15.8 yards per target for the Packers (fifth-most in the NFL). Even though Green Bay could use a deep threat in the offense, until Valdes-Scantling can show consistency on the field, it’s tough to envision him securing the reins as Rodgers’ No. 2 target.
