Why Buccaneers’ Tom Brady Deserves 2022 NFL MVP

Father Time is undefeated, but Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is certainly giving him a run for his money. Even at 44-years old, he has shown virtually no signs of slowing down as he put together another dominant season in 2021.

Brady isn’t listed as the favorite for the MVP award right now, that distinction belongs to Green Bay Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers. However, Brady has done enough to be a strong contender and is deserving of the MVP award.

Rodgers led his Packers to the first seed in the NFL, but the Brady-led Buccaneers were right behind them. Tampa Bay finished with an identical 13-4 record and earned the No. 2 seed in the NFC.

Brady played 1.5 games more than Rodgers, but he had a big edge in statistics. Brady threw for 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns, completing 67.5 percent of his passes. Both the yardage and touchdowns led the league, while the competition percentage was ninth. He also paced the league in attempts and completions, going 485 for 719.

Rodgers threw for 4,115 yards, which was 10th in the league, and completed 68.9 percent of his passes, which was good for third. He threw 37 touchdowns, which landed him in fourth place.

However, Rodgers did finish ahead of Brady in a few stats. He turned the ball over fewer times, as Rodgers had only four interceptions compared to 12 for Brady. Even when you account for Brady attempting 188 more passes, Rodgers still had a lower interception percentage.

The Green Bay signal-caller also had better QBR and passer rating numbers. Rodgers finished first in both categories with a 66.8 QBR and 111.9 passer rating. Brady finished the season with a QBR of 68.5 and a passer rating of 102.1, which placed him second and eighth.

Both players have strong cases for the award and there are certainly others that could be in the running. Jonathan Taylor, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Joe Burrow will all be mentioned as possible candidates.

However, this looks like it will ultimately be a two-horse race. Brady is certainly deserving, as he could very well have an edge if more voters share similar thoughts as Hub Arkush.

Arkush covers the Chicago Bears and it was revealed that he will not vote for Rodgers because he believes the Packers’ QB is the biggest jerk in the league. Regardless of how Rodgers carries himself off the field, the MVP award is based on his performance on the field, not off of it.

If more voters consider things outside the lines, Brady has a good chance to overcome Rodgers in the voting. Brady’s statistics certainly make him a deserving candidate alone. The Buccaneers’ quarterback definitely deserves to win the award.
