It’s His Show
Despite DeSean Jackson and the host of young receivers, the Philadelphia Eagles have on their roster, Alshon Jeffery is still the go-to guy for Carson Wentz and the Eagles’ offense. Jeffery is the main target heading into the 2020-21 NFL season and rightfully so. In 2019, he played in just 10 games where he put up numbers of 43 receptions for 490 yards and four touchdowns.
Earlier in the 2019 season, there were rumors that Jeffery was not just critical of the Eagles’ offense but that of Wentz’ play as well. Remember, for the prior two seasons, he’s had to rely on former QB Nick Foles. It was Foles who led the Eagles to their first-ever Super Bowl win and it was Foles who guided them back to the playoffs the following season. During that time, Jeffery re-established himself as a good receiver.
With Jeffery and Jackson out most of the year, it was time for the younger guys to get a little more shine. While Nelson Agholor struggled, it was Greg Ward, Zach Ertz, and Dallas Goedert who took on the brunt of the responsibility. More passes went to the TE position as well as the running backs and fans began to wonder if Jeffery should be traded.
Now, he gets time to spark that chemistry with Wentz that he had when he first arrived in Philadelphia in 2017.
