The New England Patriots were expected to be in the mix for some help at the quarterback position, and they were even rumored to be interested in moving up into the top 10 in an effort to make that happen. Thankfully for Patriots fans, no move up was necessary as they were able to snag Alabama quarterback Mac Jones with their original 15th overall pick, and it is looking like it’s going to be a great selection.

Jones playing under Bill Belichick in New England just seems to be a match made in heaven. Belichick loves to draft and acquire former Alabama players due to them already being in a pro-ready system under Nick Saban at Alabama.

Mac Jones is one of those guys who stepped up into a starting role at Alabama after waiting his turn behind Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa, and now it’s his time to shine.

During his one full season as the starter for the Crimson Tide, Jones completed 77.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just four interceptions. He also scored a touchdown on the ground.

Those numbers show the kind of potential that NFL teams saw in Jones. He was even rumored to be in the running for the No. 3 overall pick to the San Francisco 49ers, although they ended up taking North Dakota State star Trey Lance. Landing with the Patriots was the best situation that Jones could have hoped for in the draft.

He is a system quarterback, and no coach in the entire league may have a better system than Belichick. Belichick molded a sixth round pick in Tom Brady into one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, and a guy who’s coming out of college much more polished than Brady could see a similar fate.

Jones seems like your prototypical Patriots quarterback as he has a similar play-style to Brady, Jacoby Brissett, and Jimmy Garoppolo. All of those guys are former Patriots quarterbacks who saw success during their time in New England.

He is a hard-working player, and he will do whatever it takes to help the Patriots win games. If Jones can put in the work and absorb as much information as possible from Belichick and Cam Newton, he could be the next great star out of New England. This is a pick that’s going to pay off in the long haul.
