Why Notre Dame LB Julian Okwara could be a perfect pick for the Titans in the first round

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

If it weren’t for a broken fibula in 2019, Okwara may have been projected as a top-10 pick. Before getting sidelined, he graded out with a 90.4 pass rushing grade according to Pro Football Focus.

He’s a freak athletically and perhaps the best bull rusher in this year’s class. For his 6-foot-5 frame he’s very flexible and is great at converting speed to power when he engages with offensive lineman.

In his last full season at Notre Dame, Okwara recorded eight sacks to go along with 39 total tackles, 12.5 of them being for a loss.

Okwara projects to be a situational pass rusher when he first enters the league, but that’s exactly what the Titans need. Aside from Harold Landry, no other Tennessee pass rusher recorded over six sacks. The team finished with 43 total sacks on the year, good for 13th-most in the NFL.

Bringing in Okwara would be a very solid move for the Titans, and he’ll likely be available when they’re on the clock late in the first round. Watch out for this Notre Dame linebacker as the first round progresses come draft night.
